Tomczyk dominates the Nürburgring

Martin Tomczyk was unstoppable this weekend. The German driver, dominant since testing and in qualifying, did not let go of the race lead, except when he went to the pits. From the start, Tomczyk achieves a perfect takeoff in front of the Mercedes by Bruno Spengler. After putting up good resistance, the latter finally gave in to the Audis of Scheider, Ekström and Winkelhock. From the second round, the final quartet is already drawn.

So Tom Kristensen had to return to his pit box after making a mistake, Alexandre Prémat had an excellent start to the race. Starting twelfth, the driver of the 2008 Audi version is in eighth place after three laps. But, in a fight with Jarvis, the Frenchman hit the Briton who ended up in the gravel. Prémat returns to the pit and gives up in turn. Once again, François must be content with a blank weekend.

While Susie Stoddart received a penalty for excessive speed under yellow flag, the first round of pit stops concerned the majority of drivers. Jamie Green (Mercedes) delays his and progresses in the ranking thanks to his stops of his competitors. His compatriot and teammate, Paul di Resta, was less successful: after losing his rear wing, di Resta made a mistake and retired.

Jamie Green's strategy worked wonderfully since after his second pit stop, on the 35th lap, he emerged in fifth position behind the four Audi A4s. At the front, Martin Tomczyk still dominates the debates but remains vigilant, Timo Scheider and Mattias Ekström being on the lookout for the slightest error, a few tenths behind the leader. The last laps are also thrilling, the two leading Germans getting closer under the effect of Scheider?s times. But, after 48 laps, Tomcyk managed to keep the advantage.

Tomczyk gleans his first victory this season in DTM. Second, Timo Scheider did the right thing by taking control of the championship, two weeks after his victory at Oschersleben. Third, Mattias Ekström achieves his fifth in a row, which allows him to be runner-up to Scheider in the general standings, with only one point behind. The bad operation is to blame for Gary Paffett. Leader of the DTM standings before the race, he only scored the point for eighth place and found himself six points behind the new DTM boss, Timo Scheider.
