For his debut in DTM, Vincent Abril had an honorable weekend at Monza last month (June 18 to 20). On board his Mercedes-AMG GT3 No. 5 from the Haupt Racing Team, the Monegasque landed his first podium in the discipline with a 2nd place in Race 1 before crossing the line in 11th position during Race 2.

His season then seemed to be underway but this was not without taking into account a – late – decision by the commissioners of the German touring championship.

The latter effectively pronounced this Friday, on the sidelines of the second round of the campaign at the Lausitzring, the disqualification of Vincent Abril from the Monza meeting.

After analysis, it turned out that the sample taken from his Mercedes-AMG GT3 after Q1 did not correspond to the reference one from the start of the weekend. Violating article 45.5 of the DTM regulations, the Monegasque was therefore disqualified.

« The decision of the DTM commissioners surprised us, is surprised by Ulrich Fritz, CEO of HRT, who does not intend to stop there. We are sportsmen and we will ensure that the circumstances which led to this sanction can be explained in detail. We are unable to explain the differences in the fuel sample. For this reason, we will appeal the decision ».

In the meantime, this disqualification allows his teammate Maximilian Götz to grab a place in the first race at Monza and Alex Albon (AF Corse) to score his first podium in DTM.
