Zolder and Assen in a deeply redesigned 2019 calendar

The German Touring Championship (DTM) continues its overhaul for the 2019 season. The day after the announcement of the arrival of Aston Martin with the R-Motorsport structure, DTM organizer ITR has revealed its schedule for the upcoming campaign. If the opening and the final will take place as usual at Hockenheim, several changes are notable.

 

First observation, the DTM is internationalizing. Already in 2018, Brands Hatch (Great Britain) and Misano (Italy) made a notable appearance. The first night race in the history of the championship having also produced one of the best spectacles of the season, the trip to the Adriatic coast is renewed, as is the English meeting.

For 2019, the DTM will be established in Belgium and will change circuits to the Netherlands. The Audi, BMW and Aston-Martin will compete on the tracks of Zolder as well as Assen. “It is crucial for us to keep a foothold in these European countries and open our fan base, indicates Achim Kostron, Managing director of ITR.

 

The Netherlands has been a regular trip for the DTM, but never to Assen. While Zolder has already received the DTM, it is a bit like the birthplace of the DTM”, he continues. Result, the circuits of Zandvoort (Netherlands), Budapest (Hungary) and Red Bull Ring (Austria) disappear from the calendar. The Lausitzring meeting moves from May to September, while Misano is brought forward to June.

Additional categories include the all new W Series, exclusively reserved for women. “We are delighted to welcome the W Series, an innovative and professional discipline. » La Formula 3 will also continue to be on the program despite the discontinuation of the Europe version, and will be contested on the single-seaters used in 2018.

 

La Porsche Carrera Cup Germany makes its comeback after a year's break, as does the Lotus Cup Europe at Assen, Brands Hatch and Nürburgring.
