Eriksson opens his score on the night of Misano

At only 20 years, Joel Eriksson (BMW) is already a winner in the German Touring Championship (DTM) ! The vice-champion of the Formula 3 Europe in 2017 played through the changing conditions on the Misano circuit to win the second race of the Italian meeting on Sunday evening.

Contested at night, the event was marked by the intervention of the safety car to clear Lucas Auer's car (Mercedes) stuck in the gravel. Several drivers slipped on a wet and cool road surface.

Joel Eriksson managed to come out on top in the last quarter of an hour of effort. The Swedish rookie waited until Edoardo Mortara (Mercedes), René Rast (Audi) and Robin Frijns (Audi) pitted at the end of the race to gain four places.

The luxury freelancer Alessandro Zanardi (BMW) undoubtedly made the most spectacular comeback of the day. Starting 19th and last, the Paralympic hand-bike champion controlled his M4 equipped with special orders on the wet track without the slightest fault. His final fifth place is a reminder of the talent and self-sacrifice of the former F1.

Author of his first pole position in the discipline a few hours before, Loïc duval (Audi) was not unworthy and finished 7th. The Frenchman had a difficult start and suffered poor timing when entering the pits, putting on slick tires a lap before the rain returned.
