For the first time in a while Loïc duval in 2012, a French driver will benefit from an official double program in the two Japanese reference series. In 2020, Sacha Fenestraz was hired by the Toyota Gazoo Racing to race in Super GT and Super Formula.
I'm extremely proud to announce that I'm now a professional driver for Toyota.
I will be driving with Tom's in the #36 AU Car in Super GT500 and Super Formula with Kondo racing!
Thank you Toyota for making this dream come true #dreammeter #supergt #superperformula pic.twitter.com/uY8lJFZrNu— Sacha Fenestraz (@sachafenestraz) February 7, 2020
The Franco-Argentinian, running under tricolor nationality, will pilot one of the new Supras in the GT500 class within the TOM'S team. He will be associated with Yuki Sekiguchi, third in Super Formula in 2016 and 4th in Super GT the same year.
The outgoing champion of Formula 3 Japan was also looking to move up to Super Formula. A wish that will be granted through a steering wheel within the stable Kondo Racing, i.e. the same structure he encountered in GT300 in 2019.
The 20-year-old driver will meet Kenta Yamashita (Super GT champion in 2019). “It’s a dream come true, admitted Sacha Fenestraz in an interview to be found in its entirety in AUTO issue 2254hebdo, from next Monday in digital version.
My goal when going to Japan at the start of 2019 was to aim for Super GT and Super Formula within two years, so it happened quicker than expected! I am becoming a professional pilot, which was one of my career goals. I have to thank Toyota for this incredible opportunity, I'm like a kid with a new toy at Christmas.
I will take part in what I consider two of the five most important championships in the world, I'm going to be very busy. I haven't driven the Supra yet, but the Super Formula is a car crazy, with impressive power and aero load. »
