FIA GT World Cup – Lamborghini taking part in Macau

The first edition of the FIA GT World Cup, contested last November and won by Mercedes and Maro Engel, avait vu s’affronter sur le mythique tracé de Macao, Porsche, Audi, Aston Martin, Mercedes or even McLaren, each brand having delegated one or more drivers to private teams.

2016 will see the arrival of Lamborghini in the fight for this final event of the season, as Giorgio Sanna, boss of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, suggested to us last April in Misano in Italy, at the opening of the Blancpain Sprint Cup .

“We have many requests for cars in Asia, and one car, or even two or three could debut in Asian Le Mans Series. European teams are also exploring whether to line up in that part of the world at the end of the year. There are many races during this period. We will support them wherever they want to go. It is certain that we will be in Macau. » the Italian then admitted to us.

Two Huracan GT3s will actually be entered by the Asian FFF Racing Team, which we notably saw on the Road to Le Mans, at the opening of the 24 Hours, as part of the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. “For FFF Racing Team, it is an honor to return to race on the iconic streets of Macau on the biggest GT event of the year as representative of the Lamborghini Squadra Corse, comments Sean Fu Songyang, owner of the stable.

We are going to Macau with our Lamborghini Huracans to try to bring the GT World Cup back to Italy. Of course, it's still a very difficult race to win, but we have a very good car and we will have the best Lamborghini GT drivers available. It will be exciting and we should bring back a very good result. »

However, no driver has been announced to take part in the event organized around a qualifying round and a main race (based on the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup model). The officialization of the pilots should take place in September. Several big names are playing for Lamborghini in GT3, notably Mirko Bortolotti, who could be a serious candidate for a presence in Macau.
