Honda and Team Kunimitsu dominate Motegi qualifying

The reigning champions Team Kunimitsu reminded the competition that they still had to be reckoned with in 2021. Naoki Yamamoto and Tadasuke Makino (Honda NSX-GT n°1) dominated the qualifying session for the 300 km event from Motegi this Saturday morning.

Yamamoto set the benchmark time in Q2 in 1'37″498, 51 thousandths ahead of the Toyota GR Supra GT500 n°19 – WedsSport Bandoh by Yuji Kunimoto and Ritomo Miyata. Ukyo Sasahara and Toshiki Oyu (Honda NSX-GT n°16 – Team Mugen) and Yuhi Sekiguchi – Sho Tsuboi (Toyota GR Supra GT500 n°36 – Team au Tom's) complete the second row.

To find a trace of the first Nissan GT-R Nismo GT500, you have to look towards 7th place with No. 3 – NDDP Racing with B-Max of Kohei Hirate and Katsumasa Chiyo, relegated to more than nine tenths from pole.

14th place only for Bertrand Baguette (Honda NSX-GT n°17 – Real Racing), associated with Koudai Tsukakoshi, largely penalized by the ballast success.

In GT300, pole went to the No. 3 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT11 – Gainer of Katsuyuki Hiranaka and Hironobu Yasuda, the latter completing the benchmark time in 1'47″737.
