ITR reportedly in discussions with other manufacturers and teams

Without much surprise afterwards the announcement of the withdrawal of R-Motorsport from the DTM, Audi Sport has not hidden its disappointment which leaves (for the moment?) the German championship with only two brands at the start this year, Audi and BMW.

But according to Dieter Gass, head of the Neuburg competition department, promoter ITR is already in discussions with other parties.

“We regret R-Motorsport's decision and wish Dr Florian Kamelger's team the best for their future projects, comments Gass. ITR and especially Gerhard Berger are currently in intensive discussions with possible teams and manufacturers.

We know that it is not an easy task to do it in the remaining three months before the start of the season, but we are sure that we can present to the fans of the DTM an attractive starting grid for the 2020 season.”

Last year, R-Motorsport achieved the feat of aligning its Aston Martin Vantage DTM after only 90 days of development, with the support of HWA previously at the helm of the program Mercedes in the series.

It remains to be seen which brand/team would like to get involved in the championship, which has been attempting a rapprochement with Super GT for several years, via the application of the Class One regulations.
