Jorge Lorenzo soon in DTM?

Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa are not the only ones to have gone from two to four wheels. While the Italian and the Spaniard discovered the games of the GT World Challenge and the Super Trofeo this season, their old rival Jorge Lorenzo is participating in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy with the Q8 Hi-Perform team. The five-time motorcycle world champion could, however, progress to another level next year.

Le DTM confirmed to AUTOhebdo that the Majorcan will be present at the Red Bull Ring for the German championship round as a guest, but the reason for his presence in Austria is unclear. He could nevertheless settle into a Porsche 911 GT3 from the championship to carry out a test. The start of a new adventure for the Spaniard?

A former pilot of MotoGP in DTM would not be a first, since Andrea Dovizioso replaced Pietro Fittipaldi during the race weekend in Misano in 2019. The Italian took 12th and 15th places at the wheel of an Audi RS5 Turbo DTM. Gerhard Berger, the boss of the championship, has never hidden his desire to attract Valentino Rossi. The presence of Jorge Lorenzo would therefore go in this direction.

If he were to take his place on the grid in 2023, who could the Spaniard replace? Officialized for the Porsche 963, Laurens Vanthoor could abandon the DTM and thus free up a place for the 35-year-old driver at SSR Performance. Still on the side of the German manufacturer, KÜS Team Bernhard would also seek to obtain an additional entry alongside Thomas Preining.
