Kristensen will stop

The eight-time winner of 24 hours of Le Mans will therefore turn full time, from next year, to the races which have made its reputation. Winner of eight of the last twelve editions of the legendary Le Mans event, Tom Kristensen begins his fifth and final season in DTM, at the wheel of his Audi A4. Eighth in the championship last year, the Dane hopes to fight for victory this year, in order to end this interlude in tourism on a positive note. Because the man who forged his glory and his reputation around the 24 hours of Le Mans (8 victories) and the 12 hours of Sebring (5 victories) will devote himself, within a few months, entirely to endurance.

His 2009 DTM season will therefore be one of farewells. Since his arrival in the popular touring car championship, Tom Kristensen has achieved seven pole positions, sixteen podiums and three victories. But the love of endurance racing was stronger than the prospect of DTM victories: ? Sharing a seat with other drivers, working together to have the best possible setting and fighting for victory on an exceptional track, that's what I like best. »

Tom Kristensen?s decision did not surprise Wolfgang Ullrich, boss of Audi Motorsport, who was nevertheless moved: ? The DTM will not only lose a fast driver, capable of fighting for victory, but also a great sportsman, respected by his rivals and fans due to his fair driving and kindness. » But fans of endurance races will be able to rejoice in Tom Kristensen?s desire to win many more events.
