Turkey will start from pole at the FIA GT Nations Cup in Bahrain

La Turkey scored a double blow at the end of the second qualifying race for the FIA GT Nations Cup in Bahrain. Taken by Salih Yoluc and Ayhancan Güven, Mercedes-AMG GT3 operated by Ram Racing won the event and thus secured pole for the main race.

Dominant yesterday in qualifying race 1 with his teammate Mike den Tandt, pole sitter Charles Weerts spun at the first corner in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 from Belgium, after a very bad start and several lost places. The Belgian was hit by the Ferrari of Russia, led by Denis Bulatov.

A melee which benefits Turkey (Ayhancan Güven – Mercedes-AMG GT3) and France (Jim Pla – Mercedes-AMG GT3), who escape in the lead ahead of Denmark (Nicklas Nielsen – Ferrari 488 GT3) and the Italy (Matteo Cressoni – Ferrari 488 GT3).

Le tandem Güven – Pla se détache légèrement face au Danemark et l’Italie, mais le Français ne peut trouver l’ouverture sur le champion Porsche Carrera Cup France 2018.

We have to look to the fight for fifth place to find more action, with China facing Germany and Argentina. But Ye Hongli cannot maintain his Porsche 911 GT3 R against the Ferrari 488 GT3 of Nico Bastian and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Ezequiel Perez Companc.

France lets go

At the end of the 16th lap, Turkey and France made their driver changes, with Salih Yoluc and Jean-Luc Beaubelique replacing their respective teammates. At the end of the pit stops, Turkey retained the advantage ahead of France, Italy having moved up to third position, but more than ten seconds behind the leading duo, before being overtaken by Germany.

The race is then restarted by the intervention of the safety car, to evacuate debris at turns 10 and 11, undoubtedly spread by the Belgian Audi R8 LMS, Mike den Tandt being the victim of a puncture, and decidedly unlucky this Saturday afternoon.

On the restart, Salih Yoluc widened the gap on Jean-Luc Beaubelique, who spun alone a few moments later. Meanwhile, Pier Giuseppe Perazzini (Italy) also lost time by making a mistake. Enough to offer second place to Germany (Alexander Mattschull), Great Britain climbing onto the podium with the Ferrari 488 GT3 of Christopher Buncombe.

The latter took second place against Alexander Mattschull in the last three minutes, but could not prevent the success of Turkey, the logical winner of this second qualifying race.

Russia, Argentina, Mexico, Hong Kong, Denmark, Thailand and Belarus enter the top 10. France only takes 14th position in this final qualifying round.

The cumulative result of the two qualifying events thus offers pole position to Turkey, second yesterday and first this Saturday, which will start this evening in pole position from 17:30 p.m. French time. The entire starting grid will be available in a few minutes.
