DTM returns to Spa in 2020

Le DTM finally presented its 2020 calendar revised with the coronavirus crisis. The season will consist of ten rounds (20 races) contested in the second half, in Germany and neighboring countries.

The season will begin for the first time at the Norisring on the weekend of July 12, one month after the official tests held at the Nürburgring. The field of the German Touring Car Championship will then travel to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, a first in fifteen years.

The organizers have prepared a series of four races on the Nürburgring, with a first meeting where the Grand Prix circuit will be operated for the first time in the discipline since 2003. The 16 drivers will decide between themselves in Assen where the final will be held on November 8.

“This is great news and we warmly thank Gerhard Berger (president of DTM promoter ITR) and all those responsible for making this possible. For us it is an important goal to be able to compete in as many races as possible in our final season in the DTM.”, commented Dieter Gass, director of Audi Motorsport, while the brand with the Rings will leave the championship at the end of the year.

The DTM organizers have indicated that they intend to organize their events behind closed doors, but that the presence of spectators could be possible in certain rounds depending on the evolution of the situation and government health measures.

The DTM Trophy support category will be present over six rounds with 20 cars expected on the grid.
