Le DTM continues to develop. After the Japanese Super GT which will align its 2014 technical regulations with those of the German touring championship in order to attract new German manufacturers and allow the Japanese to enter Europe, here the United States is resorting to the same solution, with the aims to put it into action no earlier than 2015.
The American-style DTM will logically integrate the weekends of the new United SportsCar Racing championship (new name given to the union of ALMS and GRAND-AM) born on March 14. “The new technical regulations and the new partnerships signed represent, for the first time in the history of this sport, a global platform for committed manufacturers,” declares Hans Werner Aufrecht, boss of the ITR. “A platform offering them the opportunity to race – on the same technical basis and with the same organizational quality – in their key markets in North America, Europe and Asia.”
The objective of the organizers is obvious: in addition to the motivation of the six manufacturers already declared (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Nissan et Toyota), le DTM « USA » ambitionne d’attirer de nouveaux acteurs du segment haut de gamme américain, à l’instar de Cadillac, Lincoln ou Dodge.
This regional division of the various DTM championships on the three main global automobile markets will provide an unprecedented dynamic that can lead, without a doubt, to global competition in the coming years.
