The Ammermüller – Engelhart duo wins the ADAC GT Masters

The suspense will have lasted for a long time, the fault of a possible penalty for violation of the pit stop regulations, but Christian Engelhart and Michael Ammermüller are indeed the 2020 champions in ADAC GT Masters.

From the start, the collective accident on the main straight involving Kelvin van der Linde, title holder, and still in the race for the coronation with Patric Niederhauser on the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo – Team Rutronik, eliminated one of the contending crews .

A few meters further on, just before the race was interrupted, Albert Costa (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo – GRT) lightly touched Engelhart and sent the #92 Porsche spinning. Fortunately for the German, the neutralization of the race allowed him to regain his third place on the grid at the restart.

In the lead, Raffaele Marciello (Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo – Team HTP-Winward) and Mirko Bortlotti (Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo – Team WRT) quickly escaped, leaving Engelhart in a favorable position for the title. Further on, Mathieu Jaminet, Robert Renauer's teammate, is struggling to get rid of Dorian Boccolacci (Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo – Team Zakspeed).

After the driver changes, if the torchbearers of Marciello and Bortolotti, namely Philip Ellis and Rolf Ineichen, are well at the front, the fight for the title is concentrated between Michael Ammermüller and Robert Renauer, third and fourth on the track.

But the second will never find the opening, before the hope of a possible penalty for non-compliance with the regulations at pit stops arises, but without success. Ammermüller even let Renauer pass in the last minutes of the race.

Ellis and Marciello therefore won ahead of Bortolotti – Ineichen and Renauer – Jaminet, but the title fell well into the hands of SSR Performance and the Engelhart – Ammermüller pair.
