Garry Rogers Motorsport withdraws from Supercars, 23 entered for 2020

The 2020 Australian Supercars starting grid will no longer benefit from the presence of Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM). The provisional entry list shows 23 cars, with the organizers hoping to welcome a 24th car later, in order to remain on the same number as in 2019.

The GRM, which arrived in V8 Supercars in 1996, withdrew after the end of the sponsorship contract with the company Boost Mobile. “I do Supercars because I love it, explained founder Garry Rogers. It's not a winning business at all.

Some years we won a little money, some years we lost some, but we enjoyed the competition because of the people I worked with.

I asked Supercars to extend the 2020 registration deadline a week or two to put together a business plan but they refused. »

The GRM notably won the Bathurst 1 Km in 000 with Garth Tander and Jason Bargwanna, with a Ford Falcon, but also served as a springboard for a certain Scott McLaughlin.

The New Zealand hopeful made a thunderous debut in Supercars in 2014, with a Volvo prepared by GRM. The Swedish manufacturer will give the Australian structure the care of being represented in the discipline until 2016.

Finally, it was with the GRM that other big names in Supercars made their debut: Jamie Whincup, the record holder for titles (seven), or Steven Richards.
