Super GT maintains its confidence in the Class 1 regulations

Le DTM may be in a complicated situation with the end of the R-Motorsport program / Aston Martin, effective this year, and at the end of this campaign, the withdrawal of Audi, the Super GT intends to continue its involvement in the Class 1 technical regulations.

Imagined over many months to unify the two series, this regulation notably highlighted the 2,0 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine. And for Masaaki Bandoh, boss of GTA, promoter of the Japanese championship, the GT500 will remain centered around Class 1.

“The Class 1 regulations that we created with ITR (promoter of the DTM) are a technical regulation, and we will continue to apply them to the GT500 class of Super GT, indicates the Japanese manager.

Our vision on the parts we developed together and on how to do things step by step and progress regularly on the concepts does not change, we will therefore continue to deploy efforts in the partnership with ITR, although there will be a discussion on licensing at the end of this year.

We will also continue to work on this, and any element of cooperation and collaboration we will discuss. »

On the other hand, the idea of a new joint event like the model of the DTM final at Hockenheim and the Dream Race at Fuji remains on hold for this season. “We at GTA believe that this was a significant achievement not only nationally but also internationally, and everyone involved is aware that we have taken a step forward, continues Bandoh.

However, the DTM is also suffering a huge impact from the new coronavirus, and Audi is withdrawing. I imagine the situation is very difficult for the ITR promoter. It would be great if we could organize a racing event with the DTM, but given the current situation it would be very difficult to achieve for a while. We haven't been able to discuss anything about a joint race with DTM at the moment. »
