After several demonstrations carried out in Japan and Germany, as part of the Super GT meetings and DTM, the establishment of a joint event between the two championships on the horizon of October 2019 seems established. A meeting already outlined last June on the sidelines of the Norisring DTM event.
This was indicated by Masaaki Bandoh, boss of the Super GT promoter, GTA, during a press conference on the sidelines of the Fuji 500 miles in Japan. The event could take place in October in Germany, the event schedule being already very busy in Japan (F1, WEC, possibly WRC ...).
DTM competitors could also line up at the start of a joint event in Japan, after the Motegi final scheduled for November.
“Class 1” in the background
In addition to this announcement, Masaaki Bandoh indicated that the common round(s) of 2019 should be governed by a Balance of Performance. Indeed, the Class 1 regulations will not be adopted at the same time by the two series, in 2019 for the DTM, then in 2020 in Super GT.
