Supercars adapt to Covid-19

Supercars will resume at the end of June with the Sydney Motorsport Park meeting. The Australian discipline remained at a standstill for more than three months due to the coronavirus epidemic. For the resumption, the organizers have developed a series of strict protocols to ensure the safety of participants for the three 130km sprint races.

All teams must notably observe a compulsory stop in the three races with at least two tires to change. Each car will leave with a full tank of gas.

Teams will be limited to 6 people in the pits compared to 8 normally. Two pneumatic guns will be available for stops compared to 4. Access to the cars' telemetry data will only be available after the race. The brake temperature sensors and G sensors will be removed.

The teams will also have a more limited presence time on the circuit. Staff will only be able to arrive two and a half hours before the first session and will have to leave the circuit three hours after the end of parc ferme.

Despite these measures, the organizers considered the possibility of infection in the paddock. In order not to disrupt the running of the championship, the points for the least successful round by drivers and teams will be removed from the rankings if a driver has to miss an event in the event of symptoms linked to Covid-19.

Teams will only be able to conduct one private test session this season between August 30 and October 5. The rookie tests have been replaced by a specific session on the events.
