Mathieu Martins, Junior Porsche 2022: “I have never had so many messages in my life”

How did you learn it?

J’étais en cours quand Laurie Gautier (directrice de la PCCF) m’a appelé. J’ai demandé à sortir et mon professeur a accepté. Je ne pouvais pas trop le crier car Porsche ne l’avait pas encore annoncé. J’étais dans les toilettes tout seul mais j’étais trop content ! Quand ça a été officialisé, j’ai reçu plein de messages de félicitations, je n’en avais jamais autant eu de ma vie. Ça fait très plaisir, ça veut dire qu’il y a des gens qui me suivent et me soutiennent.

Did you expect to be selected?

Honestly, I had a good performance for two days. I told myself that I had a chance and that it could be me. Today it is so I'm happy.

In 2022, you will discover the PCCF. What will your objective be?

My coach always told me that when you arrive, it takes one year to learn and one to win. 2022 will be the year to “learn”. Of course I will give it my all. It's a very tough championship and it's going to be hard to be at the level in the future. But, I will do everything to be.

The previous Junior, Alessandro Ghiretti, achieved 6 podiums this year. Does this inspire you?

Yes obviously, his 2021 season is superb. Finish 4^e of the championship, it's a great performance. I will try to follow in his footsteps and do the same, or even better if possible.

You have a place on a team. Do you already have ideas of the team you will choose?

The two big teams are CLRT and Martinet by Alméras. I haven't chosen yet but I'm in discussion. Nothing has been done yet so we'll see.
