McLaughlin winner and champion, Waters also victorious

New race and new victory for Scott McLaughlin. Already on the top step of the podium this Saturday, the New Zealander did it again this Sunday again at The Bend.

Starting from pole, the DJR Team Penske driver lost the lead of the race from the start to his teammate Fabian Coulthard. Second in Race 29, Scott McLaughlin managed to regain control on the 7th lap.

The double seemed promised to DJR Team Penske but a mechanical failure on Fabian Coulthard's car forced Scott McLaughlin to finish the race alone. Despite the insistence of Anton De Pasquale (Penrite Racing) and Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing), the New Zealander held on to take his 13th victory of the season, bringing him even closer to the title. A title that he finally obtained a few hours later.

Also on pole for the third and final race of the weekend at The Bend, Scott McLaughlin had the cards in his hands to be crowned. To achieve this, he had to finish in front of his runner-up Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Holden Racing Team). Done.

Second on the grid, Cameron Waters surprises the championship leader and takes the reins of the meeting. Jamie Whincup keeps his third position and begins an intense three-way fight.

Neck and neck, Jamie Whincup comes through the pits from the 7th loop to try to surprise the two leading men. A strategy which did not bear fruit since Cameron Waters and Scott McLaughlin stopped a lap later and came out in front of him.

The race will no longer move and Cameron Waters will secure victory during Race 30 of the 2020 season ahead of Scott McLaughlin who once again wins the championship title, the third in a row.

« It's incredible, all credit to the team, savored the champion. It's weird not being able to celebrate it with the spectators as usual ».
