Michelin becomes DTM manufacturer

Gerhard Berger assured him last fall, Hankook would continue to supply tires to DTM, even if the German series completely changed gear with the arrival of the GT3. The contract was in fact valid until 2023 between the manufacturer and the developer.

“There is no discussion about this,” explained the Austrian. » And yet, the DTM announced on Monday that Michelin would ultimately be the new partner of the series.

The French manufacturer is therefore making its return to the high level in GT3, with Pilot Sport GT S9M tires. Until now, it only supplied the Michelin Le Mans Cup and the International GT Open. His arrival goes hand in hand with the ambition displayed by the DTM to improve the overall performance of the cars in order to stand out from the classic GT championships.

“Michelin is synonymous with top quality tires, which have stood out on the road for decades, and which contribute to victory on the circuit. Every driver can confirm it: the performance of Michelin tires, constant throughout the duration of the race, is unbeatable,” declared Gerhard Berger.

The longevity of the tires was the priority of the promoter in the choice of the French manufacturer, to no longer suffer the significant and sometimes brutal degradation that the cars suffered in previous years with Hankook tires. This year, the objective will be to attack as much as possible over the duration of the one-hour races.
