Müller wins at Spa, Duval on the podium

Alone in the world. Nico Müller flew through the first round of DTM 2020, Saturday at Spa-Francorchamps. The 2019 vice-champion, who started second, took the lead after a quarter of an hour, then was not seen again. The Swiss finished more than twenty seconds ahead, in his ABT Sport Team Audi. He thus pockets his fifth DTM victory.

The show took place just behind. From Friday, the drivers announced that tire management would be important, especially with the strong heat. Their prediction came true. On the podium for a long time, René Rast and Robin Frijns were unable to manage them and tumbled at the end of the race. The reigning champion had to stop a second time ten minutes from the finish. “I don’t know what’s going on,” he announced on his radio, annoyed. He finally finished fifth. Frijns did not stop a second time and finished much further back, in ninth place.

If Rast and Frijns lost, there need to be winners. The prize goes to Jamie green. The Englishman, victim of a puncture in qualifying during his last all-out, started from eleventh place to finish second. He notably achieved an exceptional second stint, offering himself Loïc duval at the very end of the race. The Frenchman takes the podium after a very bad start. “I stayed stuck on the line and found myself eighth,” he commented. “Then I found my rhythm and quickly overtook the BMWs.”

Like small fry. The Audis achieved a top 5, which could have been six without Frijns' tumble. BMW has clearly been below since the start of the weekend. Marco Wittmann was unable to weigh in and even less so Sheldon Van der Linde. Best BMW driver in qualifying, the South African suffered a mechanical incident in the first loops and finished dead last.

It's still better than Ferdinand Habsburg. The unfortunate Austrian destroyed his car during morning practice and was unable to take part in the race.

The classification of the race.
