Starting from pole position at Suzuka (Japan), Kazuki Nakajima and Yuki Sekiguchi (Lexus) had taken a first step towards victory. This was done during the Super GT event, held on Sunday May 26.
The main event of the race occurred on the 18th lap with the high speed exit of the former championship leader Ronnie Quintarelli (Nissan) at turn 130R. The Italian fortunately escaped unscathed.
Nick Cassidy (Lexus) made a spectacular comeback to steal second place in the final minutes of effort to the detriment of Kenta Yamashita (Lexus). Disappointment for Jenson Button (Honda), the outgoing champion having retired 10 laps from the end due to a collision with a GT300.
The only Frenchman entered in GT500, Frédéric Makowiecki (Nissan), finished in ninth place. In GT300, Sacha Fenestraz (Nissan) missed the points.
