The major work took nearly a month to prepare the Los Angeles Coliseum to host the Busch Light Clash. This year 27 drivers, or 4 more than in 2022, will qualify for the big race.

All the teams registered for the season and their 36 drivers are automatically registered for this gala race. The format of the race has changed significantly compared to last season.

Saturday February 4, the drivers will take turns setting off alone on the track in the reverse order of the 2022 general classification. They will have two flying laps to set their qualifying time for the Heat Races.

Sunday February 5, the 40 cars will be divided into 10 groups to participate in 4 Heat Races each offering 5 direct places for the race. The starting grids for these qualifying rounds will be established as follows:

  • Best Qualifying Time – Pole Heat Race 1
  • Second fastest time in qualifying – Pole Heat Race 2
  • Third fastest time in qualifying – Pole Heat Race 3
  • Fourth fastest time in qualifying – Pole Heat Race 4
  • Fifth qualifying time – Second place Heat Race 1
  • Sixth qualifying time – Second place Heat Race 2
  • ...

The first 5 drivers in each race will directly qualify for the Clash. The remaining drivers, divided into two groups, will compete in two 2-lap repechage races, the “Last Chance Qualifiers”. The top three in each race go to the Clash, accompanied by the eliminated driver who scored the most points in 50. Joey Logano, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series champion and winner of the 2022 Clash is therefore logically guaranteed to participate in the event. For the other unfortunates the adventure ends, and the sentence of the Coliseum is irrevocable.

At 18:00 p.m. local time (03:00 a.m. Monday French time), 27 cars will set off for 150 laps of the race.
