Martin Truex Jr. wins after false start

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver started this Richmond round in the worst possible way by receiving a penalty in the first meter of the race for crossing the starting line in front of the pole sitter, his teammate Denny Hamlin. 400 laps later, Truex Jr. crossed that line first again, this time legally as the winner of the second round of the playoffs.

Martin Truex Jr. wins after false start

On this occasion, he scored his fourth victory of the season and finished ahead of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates, Hamlin and Christopher Bell. This success gives him his ticket for the second elimination phase, the “Round of 12” where he is certain to find Denny Hamlin victorious last weekend at Darlington and Kyle Larson, 6th in this round and mathematically qualified on points

“Racing in Bristol next week without any constraints will be fun! » – Martin Truex Jr.

The pilot of the Toyota Camry #19 a mené au total 80 tours et a pris la tête pour ne plus la quitter à 51 tours de l’arrivée.

Truex Jr.'s fault at the start is unfortunately all too obvious.

The finale was particularly fluid with 3 sequences of pit stops under green flags. The main competition ultimately came from his teammates, and in particular from Kyle Busch, perhaps the most threatening, who had to give up all hope of victories after 2 penalties for excessive speed in the pits and finally finished 9th. Denny Hamlin led 197 laps before failing 1,3 seconds behind Truex Jr. at the line. Christopher Bell third completes this great team performance.

Chase Elliott, the defending champion, finished fourth ahead of Joey Logano and Kyle Larson. Ross Chastain, sixth, continues to have a string of good races and is the first of the non-qualified drivers.

Larson qualifies on points for Round of 12

The leader of the Stewart-Haas Racing, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney of Team Penske complete the top 10. It should be noted that Blaney 10th is the first driver to finish one lap behind the Leader.

Kurt Busch always generous in his efforts…

Kurt Busch, after leading the race in the opening laps, suffered a tire failure that sent the Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet into the wall after just 40 laps. He finds himself tied for 12th place with Alex Bowman. This last qualifying place is worth a lot and the fight promises to be terrible next weekend in the Bristol arena!
