This is another big move for Justin Marks' Trackhouse Racing. The American visionary ventured halfway around the world to recruit three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen to pilot his No. 91 Chevrolet in the first street race in the history of the NASCAR Cup Series in Chicago on July 2.

Van Gisbergen, 33, usually drives a Chevrolet Camaro in the Supercars championship for Triple Eight Race Engineering. He won the prestigious Australian championship in 2016, 2021 and 2022. He has 78 victories and 47 pole positions, making him the fourth most successful driver in the history of the series. He won the Bathurst 1000 in 2020 and 2022.

This will of course be van Gisbergen's first NASCAR race, but already the third for PROJECT91 after the appearances of the world champion in Formula 1 2007 Kimi Räikkönen at Watkins Glen in 2022 and at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin on March 26.

“I can honestly say that I have always dreamed of an opportunity to race in NASCAR, but I never thought it would become a reality, said van Gisbergen, originally from New Zealand. I can't wait to go to the United States to meet everyone and prepare for Chicago. This is the first time NASCAR has raced in town, so in a way everyone will be a Rookie like me, but I don't underestimate what a huge challenge it will be. »

Trackhouse owner and founder Justin Marks created PROJECT91 with the intention of expanding NASCAR to a global level by recruiting renowned international racing drivers. The enthusiasm surrounding Kimi Räikkönen's participations was a great reward for this initiative.
