Nico Müller wins ahead of Rast at Hockenheim

No five in a row for René Rast. A quadruple winner at Zolder, the German came up against Nico Müller during the first race at Hockenheim, scene of the season finale. The two Audi drivers leading the championship put up a great fight in a race where DRS and push to pass prevented the drivers from making big gaps.

René Rast started on pole, but Nico Müller passed him at the start. The German remained in contact and regained his position after fifteen minutes of racing. In the process, we witnessed a wheel-to-wheel battle between the two rivals for the title. Müller tried twice to pass to the outside, twice touching his opponent but Rast resisted admirably.

We had to wait for the refueling before Nico Müller managed to take the lead again. The Swiss performed the perfect undercut and even saw Rast fall back to third place, overtaken by his Team Rosberg teammate, Jamie Green. A few laps later, the Englishman offered no resistance to Rast who returned to second before going hunting.

On the 28th lap Rast, helped by the DRS, passed Müller again for the lead. A safety car released five laps from the finish could have signaled the end of the game. But the Swiss had not said his last word. On the restart, he took the lead again, this time definitively.

After a very tense race, Müller let his joy burst forth with a powerful cry, while René Rast appeared very angry. The German did not like the fact of not having been warned that the last lap had started and was acerbic towards his team. There were a lot of DRS left. use. Rast also criticized Müller for his wheel kicks, although they were light. “We are thirteen points ahead, it’s still a big gap but I have to digest this very tough race,” concluded René Rast.

Nothing is decided for the title before the last race on Sunday. Behind, Jamie Green completes the podium and the French Loïc duval finished fourth.
