Percat and McLaughlin victorious in Sydney

Nick Percat (Holden) returned to winning ways for his 200th Supercars start by winning Race 2 in Sydney. The Brad Jones Racing resident who started from 6th row made an aggressive first stint to move into second position behind pole sitter Jamie Whincup (Holden).

“I'm really grateful to Brad (Jones, the team owner) and the whole team, commented Nick Percat. (Brad) couldn't be there, but I thank him for putting his trust in me. I thought something was going on when I passed Shane (van Gisbergen) on the first lap. »

The pilot of the Red Bull Holden Racing Team retained the advantage after the pit stops, but the seven-time champion had to give in to his rival who had changed 4 tires compared to 2 for the No. 88 Holden. Nick Percat thus scored his first victory since the Adelaide 500 in 2016 when he was racing for Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport. Scott McLaughlin (Ford), winner of the first race, completed the podium behind Jamie Whincup.

It was once again the star driver of DJR Team Penske who shone in the last race. The championship leader took pole and remained out of reach of the attacks of Jamie Whincup who finally had to give in to Lee Holdsworth (Ford) who scored his first podium since Winton in 2014.

“The car was much better with the tires in this race. We were able to show more of our true rhythm over the long stint”, explained the double reigning champion who now has a lead of 49 points.

The Supercars will return to service on the weekend of July 19 for the Winton SuperSprint meeting.
