René Rast wins a second crown

After 2017, René Rast (Audi) secures a second title in DTM, after a second race at the Nürburgring with intense suspense for the premature award of the 2019 Drivers' crown before the Hockenheim final next October.

Better off than pole sitter Jamie Green (Audi), Rast had taken his destiny into his own hands, especially since his main rival Nico Müller was behind at the first corner. But the burst of pit stops would significantly change the standings, with Green regaining the advantage after Rast was stationed for a longer period of time in his position.

The Briton then takes Rast, Robin Frijns (Audi), Loïc duval (Audi) and Nico Müller (Audi). At this moment, René Rast is titled, but the lightning comeback of Frijns, who takes the advantage 8′ from the finish over Rast, then reverses the situation, temporarily pushing back the deadline to the Hockenheim final.

But it is ultimately Team WRT and Jonathan Aberdein who will offer the 2019 crown to René Rast, the South African overtaking Nico Müller in the final laps.

In the lead, Jamie Green resists Robin Frijns, author of a final attempt at the last chicane two laps from the goal, to win his first victory of the year and the first since the 2017 Hockenheim final. Frijns and Rast complete the podium in front of Duval, Aberdein and Müller who therefore fails in his quest for the coronation.

Philipp Eng (BMW) places the best M4 in 8th position, Dani Juncadella hoisting the first Aston Martin in 12rd position.
