René Rast winner in Zolder

The king shows that he is not going to abdicate so easily. Reigning champion of DTM, René Rast is less impressive this year and is in third place in the championship. Lacking success for several weeks, he rediscovered the taste of victory on Saturday, during the first race of the weekend at Zolder, and in style.

The double champion pushed back his runner-up to 18 seconds. “I was a little pessimistic at the start because I was in a wet position and we generally suffer. But everything went well. Once in the lead I pushed and went faster and faster. »

Problem is, his closest pursuer in the race is also his rival for the title. Indeed, Robin Frijns does not lose much at the end of this rather quiet race at the front. He was never able to attack Rast, but remained solid and grabbed points from leader Nico Müller.

Paradoxically, it was the latter who carried out the best operation in the race. After a failed qualifying, he could fear big gaps at the end of the race. Nope. The boss managed to move up from seventh to third place. “I'm satisfied because I managed to avoid most of the accidents. I don’t feel perfect with the car, especially in qualifying, but I’m happy to have managed to get on the podium.”

Very fit this weekend, Timo Glock finished first BMW driver with 4th place. Note the very good performance of Harrison Newey who took fifth position, his first points this season and the best result for Team WRT since the start of the season.

Loïc duval on the other hand only obtains tenth place.
