Rockenfeller masterfully wins Race 2 at Assen
To hope to win in the German Touring Championship (DTM) Sunday July 21 in Assen (Netherlands), we had to focus above all on tire management. René Rast (Audi) and to a lesser extent Loïc duval (Audi) were among the fastest drivers; the first named could even aim for victory.
Unfortunately, his tires were losing grip at a crazy speed and his engineer even forced him to go to the pits a second time to replace his tires. In a race of less than an hour, such a pattern is prohibitive for winning. Winded up like a clock, René Rast still finished sixth; Loïc Duval missed the points (11th).
The correct tactic was to only one pit stop. Mike Rockenfeller (Audi), second after a few hectometers, followed the right strategy and thus signed his first victory in 2019. Marco Wittmann (BMW), on the other hand, had a much more spectacular race. Starting from the pits due to a turbo problem in qualifying, the winner of the day before made a lightning comeback, up to second place, ahead of Nico Müller (Audi).
The first Aston Martin is that of Daniel Juncadella in seventh place, ahead of his teammate Paul di Resta. Victim of a collision, Jake Dennis (Aston Martin) retired, as did Joel Eriksson (BMW) and Bruno Spengler (BMW) struck by mechanical damage.
