Scott McLaughlin winner in C1 in Sydney

First of three confrontations of the second consecutive weekend on the Sydney track in supercars, this Saturday's night race saw the victory of Scott McLaughlin (DJR Team Penske – Ford).

The outgoing champion, leader of the general classification before this meeting, had previously taken pole position under the nose of Shane van Gisbergen (Red Bull Holden Racing – Holden), but could not prevent the former GT World Challenge Europe champion Endurance Cup to take the advantage at the start.

A good move for 'SVG', mainly due to a choice of soft tires on the #97 Holden Commodore, when McLaughlin opted for the harder tires for his first stint.

Also beaten on the first lap by Cameron Waters and Lee Holdsworth (Tickford Racing – Ford), also on soft tires, McLaughlin will turn his back to take his tires as far as possible and switch to the soft compounds for the end of the race.

A strategy that paid off for the New Zealander who ultimately won ahead of Lee Holdsworth and Anton de Pasquale (Erebus Motorsport – Holden). Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup placed the two Red Bull Holden Racing Holden Commodore in the top 5 ahead of Cameron Waters and Fabian Coulthard (DJR Team Penske), who competed the entire race on hard tyres.

Two other qualifying sessions and two races will be on the program tomorrow in Sydney.
