Supercars – DJR Team Penske sees double in Melbourne

Scott McLaughlin ahead of Fabian Coulthard in race 1, Fabian Coulthard ahead of Scott McLaughlin in race 2, DJR Team Penske largely dominated the first day in Supercars at the non-championship meeting in Melbourne, Australia.

McLaughlin won his Ford Falcon during the first round to give Roger Penske his first victory, after a fight with Jamie Whincup (Red Bul Holden Racing Team Australia – Holden Commodore). The six-time champion took advantage of an error from poleman Fabian Coulthard to take control of the race before giving in to the return of the two Ford Falcons.

Whincup ultimately finished fourth behind Chaz Mostert (Rod Nash Racing – Ford). Michael Caruso (Nissan Motorsport – Nissan Altima) completes the top 5 in Race 1 ahead of defending champion Shane van Gisbergen (Red Bull Holden Racing Team Australia).

In race 2, Fabian Coulthard was not worried after controlling the start from pole position, and won ahead of McLaughlin for a second double for DJR Team Penske. The podium for this second round is completed by the Nissan of Michael Caruso.

Simona de Silvestro (Nissan Motorsport) concluded the day with a 13th place and a retirement, following an accelerator problem. Shane van Gisbergen did not see the finish in race 2, after being involved in a collision with Chaz Mostert and James Moffat.
