Supercars – GRM abandons Volvos

Garry Rogers Motorsports has announced it will finally field Holden Commodore cars for James Moffat and Garth Tander for the 2017 Supercars season. The team was initially supposed to continue entering Volvo S60s despite the withdrawal of the Swedish manufacturer, but it was the engine problem which influenced the decision of Garry Rogers, the boss of the team of the same name.

“After a three-season agreement with Volvo, we chose to continue running the S60s for 2017. The news of Volvo's withdrawal in May came as a complete surprise and went against the message we had had regarding their projects », recalled Garry Rogers.

“We still wanted to run the Volvos, the result of an investment requiring thousands of hours of work and considerable money spent on design, development, creation and homologation, but the engine supplier was a problem. We talked about the possibility of installing a Chevrolet engine in the Volvo S60, but that didn't suit me. I like to think that I am modern, but I remain attached to traditions. This part of me told me it wasn't the right thing to do.", justified the boss of the GRM.

The Volvo S60 should therefore disappear from Supercars after their appearance in 2014.
