Supercars – The provisional 2017 calendar presented

Traditionally contested at the end of the championship since 2009, the Sydney 500 event will give way in 2017 to a new meeting organized in Newcastle, New South Wales, a contract having been signed for the next five years.

This novelty is the main change made to the calendar for the next season by the organizers of the Australian series who have favored stability. The potential expansion in Asia (an event was initially scheduled for Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia this year before being canceled) should be postponed to 2018.

“Due to legal issues, we have not included Malaysia in the 2017 calendar, but we remain committed to exploring new destinations in Asia, says James Warburton, executive director of Supercars. There is very strong interest in the region and we believe there will be great opportunities for the sport and our fans in 2018.”

If the season is due to start from March 2 to 5 in Adelaide, the closing date in Newcastle still remains uncertain, in particular due to a potential conflict with the date of Rally from Australia, which could emerge at the next World Motor Sport Council scheduled for tomorrow.

“Our preferred date remains November 17-19, but this will not be made official before the confirmation of the World Rally Championship date in order to avoid any conflict. »

The Enduro Cup will still include the Sandown 500 (September 15-17), Bathurst 1000 (October 5-8) and the Gold Coast 600 (October 20-22).
