Supercars – McLaughlin and Prémat on provisional pole at Bathurst

Scott McLaughlin and Aléxandre Prémat (Ford) took provisional pole for the Bathurst 1000. The Championship leader posted a lap time of 2'04''2253 less than a minute from the end of the first part of qualifying.

The DJR Team Penske driver was more than two tenths ahead of his closest rival, David Reynolds (Holden). Chaz Mostert (Ford) completed the top three ahead of Cameron Waters (Ford) and Mark Winterbottom (Ford).

The first part of qualifying which determines the second part of the Bathurst 1000 grid and the qualifiers for the shootout (the first ten places on the grid) was eliminatory for Jamie Whincup (Holden), Scott McLaughlin's direct opponent for the title. The Triple Eight Racing driver co-driven by Paul Dumbrell fell less than a tenth behind the tenth place achieved by Garth Tander (Holden).
