Supercars – Winterbottom and Whincup winners at Pukekohe

Mark Winterbottom (Ford) scored his second victory of the season by winning Supercars Race 3 at Pukekohe.

The 0 Racing Team resident took advantage of the contact between the two Triple Eight Racing drivers, Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup (Holden) when the six-time champion attempted a maneuver on the No. 2 Commodore and received a drive-through on relegating to 25th place. Shane van Gisbergen was able to save a podium by taking the last step behind Scott Pye (Ford).

Jamie Whincup got back on track by winning the last event of the weekend where he started from pole. The driver of the No. 88 Holden won almost 9 seconds ahead of his teammate, while Scott McLaughlin (Volvo) completed the podium ahead of Chaz Mostert (Ford) and Mark Winterbottom. The race remained fluid at the front since the top five did not change between the start and the finish.

Shane van Gisbergen maintains a healthy lead in the Championship with 191 points ahead of Jamie Whincup ahead of the final in Sydney at the end of the month.
