Team Penske leaves Supercars

In 2021, Dick Johnson Racing will compete in its 40th Supercars season, still with two Mustang GTs. But it will be without Team Penske, which is also leaving the series after six seasons marked by three Drivers' titles and as many Teams' titles.

Together, Team Penske and Dick Johnson Racing have also scored 56 victories – including one at Bathurst 1000 last year thanks to Scott McLaughlin / Alexandre Prémat – and 62 pole positions.

« It has been an honor to work with Team Penske for the past six seasons, but we understand the challenge everyone is facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said team founder Dick Johnson. A new chapter now begins for DJR and I can't wait to see what he has in store. We have some brilliant personalities within our team, those who have allowed us to win these victories and these titles over the last six seasons. »

Dick Johnson, in his speech, also claims to want “ thank Scott (McLaughlin. Editor's note) for his professionalism on and off the track. And we're delighted that he'll be joining us next year as co-driver for the Bathurst 1000 in October. We know that Scott is in a very good position with Team Penske for the future and we wish him the best of luck in his budding career in IndyCar. »

It is a safe bet that in the coming hours, the New Zealander – who will debut in IndyCar this weekend in St Petersburg – will therefore be made official by Team Penske for the entire 2021 IndyCar Series season .
