Timo Bernhard becomes Porsche ambassador

C’est un peu une page d’histoire qui se tourne du côté de Weissach. Archétype même du jeune talent rapidement détecté par Porsche et qui a su gravir les échelons internes pour devenir une référence du GT, du proto et plus généralement de l’Endurance, Timo Bernhard will no longer be an official driver in 2020.

The announcement was made last night during the Night of Champions 2019, the German brand's traditional end-of-season evening. Timo Bernhard will, however, remain within the Porsche fold by becoming an ambassador for the firm, in the same way as Jörg Bergmeister. Bernhard could, however, still be involved in certain races from 2020.

Timo Bernhard in motor racing, these are two overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2010-2017), one category victory (2002), five victories at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring (from 2006 to 2009 and 2011, a record that still stands today), two titles WEC (2015-2017), two proto titles in ALMS (2007-2008), a GT title in ALMS (2004), or even a Porsche Carrera Cup Germany title in 2003 which definitively launched his career.

Added to this are victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona but also at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Only the 24 Hours of Spa is missing from the German's track record. The latter will once again focus in 2020 on his Team75 Bernhard team.

Jörg Bergmeister ends his career at Porsche with an equally substantial record, with a Carrera Cup Germany title in 2000, a Supercup crown the following year, a victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2003, at the 24 Hours of Spa in 2010 , a GT victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2004, and a number of ALMS GT2 crowns.
