V8 – Polestar will retire in 2017

Polestar will no longer be involved in V8 Supercars from 2017. The Swedish manufacturer's division has announced that it will not renew its three-season contract with the Australian touring car series. The Scandinavian cars currently entered by Garry Rogers Motorsport with James Moffatt and Scott McLaughlin should nevertheless continue to be entered by the team via Cyan Racing.

“We have enjoyed our good cooperation with Garry Rogers Motorsports and the organizers of the Championship, but our strategy and financial objectives require us to focus our attention on other technologies and other championships in the future”, said Niels Möller, Polestar's director of operations.

Volvo could also leave the STCC if the Swedish Championship adopts the TCR Series specifications. The Nordic brand is focused on its WTCC program.

Garry Rogers Motorsports has scored seven wins, 17 podiums and 17 poles since its collaboration with Volvo in 2014. The team quickly responded that its ties with Polestar were already severed and that this announcement did not affect its program for 2017, but the situation remains unclear.

“Polestar has warned us since the start of the year that it will cease its involvement at the end of the season. If you look at the rear wing, it now says Volvo Cyan Racing and no longer Volvo Polestar Racing. The partnership ended for us at the beginning of the year. This announcement does not affect us in any way”, replied Barry Rogers, the team's head of administration.
