Vincent Abril on pole at Monza

In the annals of DTM, Vincent Abril will remain as the first pole-sitter of the GT3 era in DTM. The Monegasque, 2015 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup champion, experienced in driving cars in the category, set the stage this Saturday morning, setting the best time in qualifying for race 1 at Monza.

On the Lombard Autodrome, the pilot of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo n°5 – HRT completed its benchmark lap in 1’46″488, beating Dani Juncadella (Mercedes n°72 – GruppeM Racing) by 8 thousandths. The GT stars also monopolize the second row with Lucas Auer (Mercedes n°22 – Team Winward) and Maxi Götz (Mercedes n°4 – HRT), clocked in at 0″102 and 0″344.

Esteban Muth hoists the best Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo n°10 – T3 Motorsport into fifth position at 0″375. You have to go down to seventh place to find the first Ferrari 488 GT3 n°30 – Red Bull AF Corse of Liam Lawson, when the best Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo n°51 – Team Rosberg of Nico Müller follows in eighth position.

15th position for the first BMW M6 GT3 n°11 – Walkenhorst Motorsport of Marco Wittmann, which concedes more than a second on Abril's time. Race 1 will start at 13:30 p.m. and can be followed on AutoMoto la Chaîne.
