The reactions of Esteban Masson and Macéo Capietto after the controversial collision

Crowned F4 France champion after the retirement of Esteban Masson on the last lap of Race 3, Macéo Capietto is accused of having deliberately hit his rival in order to win the title. Author of an attack on Hugh Barter for second place in Adelaide on the last lap, Macéo missed his braking and hit the leader Esteban Masson from behind. Any result other than a top 3 effectively deprived Masson of the title, regardless of the points scored by Macéo. The incident remains under investigation. Here is the reaction of the two pilots after the fact.

Macéo Capietto: “I would like to apologize to Esteban. It's a real shame to end the championship this way, especially after the great championship we had. I had no intention of hooking Esteban. There was one lap left, I still had a chance to get him. Hugh (Barter, Editor's note) closed the door on Adelaide, I moved outside. I braked super late, at the 100 meter sign. Hugh did too and he fell back to the left, so when he fell back, either I went left and hit Hugh, or I went right and hoped to hit no one. I wanted to go between the two and I couldn't avoid Esteban. I'm extremely disappointed with how it ended. This is not how it was supposed to end. It's a stupid mistake, nothing more. I didn't do it on purpose... Do I deserve a penalty at the meeting, yes certainly. Do I deserve exclusion from the championship as I see fit or license points? No, I do not think so ".

Esteban Masson: “I don’t have much to say. I did my race the way I was supposed to do it. I managed it all the way. It was hard because I got speared in C2 and had to drive in C3 with a worn tire. With the pressure, it was not easy to resist. I managed to ride differently so as not to be attacked despite my tires. Arriving at the last lap, I had a gap on Barter. I saw that everyone was far away, that it was impossible to overtake. I brake normally. I arrive at the bend, I turn, I get harpooned from afar from behind. I have nothing else to say. This has already happened in Hungary. Everyone saw what happened. For my part, I did the work, what was necessary. I tried to leave but it wasn't possible. I was obviously upset. I took my two poles, I won the C1, and I got knocked out twice. We'll see what happens with the marshals, but I have no regrets about my work on the track. »
