The crown changes heads. Initially titled at the end of Race 3 of the last round of the Formula 4 season at Magny-Cours, Macéo Capietto was finally excluded from the meeting by the panel of stewards. Author of an attack on Hugh Barter in Adelaide on the last lap, Macéo missed his braking and hit race leader Esteban Masson from behind, an action which forced his rival to retire. It was precisely by making this error that Capietto won the title.
But the panel of stewards opened an investigation and concluded that the driver of car no. 5 was guilty “a suicide attack on car no. 9, and unsporting behavior which harms the result and the image of the F4 championship”.
The commissioners therefore decided to exclude Macéo from the meeting, thus resulting in zero points for the meeting in terms of points and an impossibility of counting the Magny-Cours round in the ranking. The guardian of the driver of car No. 5 has decided to appeal the decision. As a direct result, Esteban Masson is crowned F4 France champion.
As things currently stand, following this decision, Macéo Capietto finished 3rd in the championship. Hugh Barter, the winner of Race 3 ahead of Alessandro Giusti and Daniel Ligier, is promoted to vice-champion.
