Bertrand Baguette: “Republish the feat”

Two races have already been contested this season, what are your first conclusions?
“We had a rather difficult weekend in Barcelona. We were not in the place we wanted to be, due to a car with behavior that can still be improved. Third on the grid for the first round, I managed to overtake Adrian Valles at the start and managed to hold him off throughout the race, to finish second. The second race was less conclusive with a retirement as a result. We were able to save the furniture and score important points for the championship. »

After a great victory last year, Spa-Francorchamps inevitably brings back good memories. Can you go over the highlights of this race?
“Of course, the 2008 Spa round was one of the highlights of my season. Despite a bad start, which caused me to drop from third to fifth place, things quickly turned in my favor. Miguel Molina, then fourth, received a penalty. Later Julien Jousse and Giedo Van de Garde collided and I found myself second, behind Salvador Duran. With a few laps to go, I managed to find the opening at the chicane to take the lead. A great memory that I won't soon forget. »

75 spectators were present last year at Spa-Francorchamps. Was the atmosphere special?
“The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful here and especially during the World Series by Renault ! Last year the Belgian public, which one might think was reserved, was very expansive. He literally carried me during the last laps when I was leading the race. And if I couldn't hear them in my car, I saw them moving around and encouraging me. I am more recognized in the Spa paddock and more in demand than elsewhere. It's part of the game and it's very pleasant to feel supported in this way even though I live a quarter of an hour from the circuit?

For you, this race will be held at home. In what state of mind are you approaching this rather special weekend?
“With great pleasure since I love this track and it is very pleasant for me to see the Belgian public again. I still approach it with the same state of mind as elsewhere. I don't lose sight of the championship. So I wouldn't take unnecessary risks, even if I really want to win. We tested some successful new settings during the second race in Barcelona, which makes me quite confident. We will be there. »

Who do you think will be the opponents to watch out for during this Ardennes event?
“We will have to watch Charles Pic, James Walker and Miguel Molina who will be great customers at Spa. But they will be just as dangerous throughout the season and for the title. But I intend to have my say. »
