Race 1: Saucy wins and increases its lead in the championship

This Catalan weekend never ceases to smile on Grégoire Saucy. Author of the two pole positions on Friday, the Swiss has already converted the first into victory this Saturday, by easily dominating Race 1 in front of his teammate Gabriele Mini (ART Grand Prix) and the Estonian Paul Aron (Prema).

Author of a perfectly controlled start, he resisted the good start of his teammate Mini on the front row. Once again, a Safety Car disrupted the festivities on the first lap. The latter remained on the track for half the race. But at the restart, Saucy put everyone to sleep again and finished by managing his lead, two seconds over his teammate.

The Helvetian now has a fifteen-point lead at the top of the championship over his new runner-up Paul Aron. Second in the championship before this race, David Vidales (Prema), who started in the pack in 19th position, saw his race interrupted on the first lap after a collision with Gabriele Bortoleto (FA Racing).

The French put on a show in a category where overtaking is as rare as a FRECA race without Safety Car. After a superb regular overtake on Dino Beganovic (Prema), Isack Hadjar attacked William Alatalo for 6th place but had to settle for an honorable 7th final position.

His teammate and compatriot Hadrien David (R-ace GP), forced to start from 34th position after a mechanical problem in qualifying on Friday, finished in an impressive 12th place, benefiting in particular from the Colapinto-Beganovic collision at the end of race.
