Second pole in a row for Logan Sargeant

He is the first driver of the season to take two pole positions since the start of the year. By setting the best qualifying time for the 70th anniversary Grand Prix, Logan sargeant (Prema Racing) did even better than that since it took a second leading position in a row this Friday. The American rose above the fray to win with a 0” lead over Liam Lawson (2nd, Hitech) and Jake Hughes (2rd, HWA Racelab). He pocketed the four pole points in the process.

The session was disrupted twice by the mechanical setbacks of the championship leader, the Australian Oscar piastri. The Prema Racing team driver, already the victim of a retirement in race 2 last week due to a recalcitrant DRS, had to immobilize his vehicle for the first time. car at the entrance to the pit lane, mid-session. The member of the Renault Sport Academy was able to set off again to try a new round but had to stop definitively 5 minutes from time. He also caused an annoying red flag while most of the other drivers were completing their fast laps. Piastri, unlucky, therefore tumbled to 11th place.

After a complicated first part of qualifying for the ART Grand Prix drivers, Theo Pourchaire managed to pull off a good trick. He will start from 6th place on the grid, during race 1 on Saturday morning (10:25 a.m.). His compatriot Clément Novalak (Carlin) will start at the gates of the top 10 (12th) and will try to get into the points to start ahead in race 2 on Sunday. HWA Racelab signed the surprise of the day by placing two of its drivers in the Top 10, since Jake Hughes is 3rd and Jack Doohan 7th.
