F3 revamps its inverted grids

La F3 is reviewing its reverse grid system for the 2020 season with two major changes.

It will no longer be the 8th driver at the finish of the first race of the weekend who will be on pole for the second, but the tenth. The ranking of the first ten at the finish will be taken into account to form the grid for Race 2 in reverse order.

The points awarded for Race 2 have also been increased for certain places. The 6th position will earn 5 points, the 7th four points, the 8th three points, the 9th two and the tenth one. The points collected for the first five places will not change (15,12, 10, 8, 6), as will the points collected at the end of the first race of the weekend.

“It’s already a great achievement when you manage to finish in the Top 10 in a field of 30 drivers and we felt that we should reward performances in the two races rather than the first, explains championship director Bruno Michel. The change to the reverse grid with the top ten drivers now taken into account will allow drivers to have more chances of scoring points and provide a better view of their achievements at the end of the season. »

The 2020 F3 season will begin on the weekend of March 22 at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain.
