At Monza this Sunday, Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) went through all the emotions. One time leading the race then falling to 3e behind Zane Maloney (Trident) and Oliver Bearman (Prema), the Habs were then penalized by 5 seconds (non-compliance with track limits) while we were under red flag conditions.
After long minutes of waiting, where tension was felt in the ranks of ART Grand Prix, and various calculations to know where he was going to finish, Victor Martins was able to catch his breath. Its 4e final place, while the race was definitively stopped, offered him the title of champion of F3 for his 2e year in the category.
« I don't have the words, I worked a lot, he said before being overcome by emotion. I had an incredible race to be honest. I only focused in front of me. I got off to a good start and I saw that the drivers in front of me were taking a lot of risks. I knew both could be champions but I was only focused on staying 3e and take the points. For my part, I did everything I had to do."
Victor Martins, the eternal pressure for the title
Like his adventure in Formula Renault where he had to wait until his 3e year to become champion, Victor Martins experienced a similar scenario in F3 even though he only needed two attempts. A journey that allowed him to strengthen himself on all levels.
« In recent years I won Formula Renault in my 3e year, it had been difficult, he recalls. I knew I had the potential, I always believed in myself saying I was strong enough to win a championship and continue my career while progressing after a difficult year. It strengthened me. The experiences I have had in the past have also given me additional strength. Every team I've been through has helped me become stronger, a better rider, a better person. And ART Grand Prix… I won my two titles with them. I can only thank them for all their work because they have supported me for a long time. This is the start of a bright future."
With the champion's crown on his head and the season over, Victor Martins is now turning to the rest of his career. If nothing is yet confirmed at the moment, the Habs still dream of Formula 1 and this involves promotion in F2.
« I can only say that I did the job, he advances. It’s now in the hands of the people around me. I know I have the right people behind me, there are also Alpine. I know that they do everything they can for me but also my managers. I trust them. I know I would have the future I want, maybe one day becoming an F1 driver."
