FR 2.0 – Oscar Tunjo wins ahead of Vandoorne

Oscar Tunjo (Tech 1 Racing) had a perfect day by taking pole and victory in Race 1 in Barcelona, the penultimate event of the Eurocup Formula season Renault 2.0. The Colombian managed to maintain his advantage at the start over Championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne (Josef Kaufmann Racing), more concerned with keeping his title rival Daniil Kvyat (Koiranen Motorsport) in his exhausts. Although the Russian only started on the third row, he made a very good start to quickly place himself behind the Belgian. “Since the start of the season we have been waiting for this victory, explains Tunjo. Today it’s done, it’s good for the whole team. It was not easy to resist Stoffel and Daniil at the end of the race. Pole then victory, what could be better! »

The first two drivers were indirectly helped by the arrival of the safety car after an eight-car pileup that occurred on the first lap of the race which involved Alexander albon (Epic Racing), Guilherme Silva (Interwetten.com Racing), Andrea Pzzitola (R-Ace GP), Egor Orudzhev (Fortec Motorsports), Leo Roussel (Arta Engineering), Patrick Kujala (Koiranen Motorsport) Jordan King (Manor MP Motorsport) and Kevin Jorg (Epic Racing). The race only really lasted eight minutes with one final additional lap to complete. Alex Riberas (Josef Kaufmann Racing) and Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports) complete the top five ahead of Paul-Loup Chatin (Tech 1 Racing).

Stoffel Vandoorne extends his lead to 14 points over Daniil Kvyat heading into the final race of the season. “The main thing is to finish in front of Daniil and take points from him, confirms the Belgian. Everything will be decided tomorrow. You have to stay calm. » The Russian will therefore have to get on the podium while hoping that his Belgian rival does not score any points. But today, he is optimistic. “Starting fifth, it?s good to finish third just behind Stoffel, underlines the resident of Red Bull Junior Team. I pushed as much as I could. I took risks to try to pass Stoffel at the end of the race, but I had to stay focused and above all not lose everything. »
