FR 2.0 – Tech 1 enters five drivers in Eurocup and ALPS

Since the start of Tech1 Racing's involvement in Formula Renault 2.0, the Toulouse team won one title per year. In 2012, Tech1 Racing won the Teams title in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS thanks to Paul-Loup Chatin (3rd in the Drivers classification) and Oscar Tunjo (4th in the Drivers classification). In the Eurocup, the season ended with a 4th place in the Teams ranking.

After a 2012 learning season marked by clear progress during the last meetings, the Frenchman Matthieu Vaxivière (19 years old) will continue his training with Tech1 Racing in 2013. The 4 French F2011 Champion intends to capitalize on his achievements to climb among the contenders to succeed Stoffel Vandoorne. Matthieu will be joined by his compatriot Pierre Gasly (17 years). Third in the 4 French F2011 Championship, he distinguished himself during his first season in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 by reaching the podium three times and taking a pole position to finish tenth in the standings. The third car entered in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 will be entrusted to the Russian Egor Orudzhev (17 years old), who started in car in 2012 with a tenth place in the French F4 Championship.

Three drivers will also be entered in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS, mainly contested in Italy. In order to accelerate his training, Egor Orudzhev will complete a double program. His teammates will be the Canadian Luke Chudleigh and the Russian Ivan Taranov. Protégé of Robert Wickens, former Formula Renault 3.5 Series winner and now driver Mercedes en DTM, Luke Chudleigh (17 years old) will discover single-seaters after a great career in karting on the other side of the Atlantic. Ivan Taranov (18 years old) joins Tech1 Racing after two seasons of FR 2.0 in Great Britain. He finished tenth in the Protyre Formula Renault Championship last year.

“This new season will reset a good part of the counters to zero, since we will be operating a new Formula Renault. We are once again banking on youth for our Formula Renault 2.0 programs”, comments Simon Abadie, Team Manager of Tech1 Racing. “With Pierre Gasly and Matthieu Vaxivière, we will be able to count on two drivers capable of playing leading roles in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. For Egor Orudzhev, this double program in Eurocup and ALPS should allow him to gain a lot of experience and progress quickly. Ivan Taranov already has this experience after two seasons in Great Britain. This should be an asset in ALPS. Finally, Luke Chudleigh will make his single-seater debut. His results in karting and the team around him make us hope for the best. »
